Dr. Andrew Howlett
Andrew Howlett, MD FRCPC, is a psychiatrist and Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, with over a decade of experience in child, adolescent and family mental health. His innovation and advocacy in the area of father involvement and fathers' mental health, has made important contributions to how we provide care to families.
Dr. Howlett earned his bachelor's degree in Science/Business Administration at St. Francis Xavier University, completed his Medical Degree at Dalhousie University and his post-medical training in psychiatry at the University of Toronto. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada.
Since 2012, Dr. Howlett has been providing mental health care to children and their families, and in 2014 he established Canada's first Fathers' Mental Health Service, focused on supporting expectant and new fathers. Dr. Howett has collaborated on a number of studies including healthydads.ca, the SUMMIT Trial and conducted a systematic review on interventions for paternal perinatal depression. His work as an award winning advocate and educator continues to centre the role fathers play in the health of their families. Fathers Health reaches beyond mental health to explore how we can optimize both men's health and family well-being.
